That seems to be the sentiment of many investors, chastened as they were by the events of 2008. (Although this is certainly showing my age, I recall a similar client reaction after 1987—and every scary correction since then.) Mark Hulbert on MarketWatch has a nice article about the sudden disappearance of bulls with only a shallow pullback in the market so far. I don’t know how things will work out in terms of the correction yet, but I note that we had a similar move in our Greatest Fear Spread in our last sentiment survey.
